Ultimate Vocabulary Creator eReflect Salutes Native Speaker’s Endeavor To Preserve Dying Language

New York City, NY (PRWEB) January 27, 2015

In a touching video about language, Marie Wilcox, the last fluent speaker of Wukchumni, teaches humanity that drive and preservation can make a difference in the world. eReflect recommends this video about Wilcox’s native language, and her efforts to to preserve it. In an inspirational short film titled “Marie’s Dictionary,” the story of Wilcox and her native Indian language is beautifully illustrated. The language is on the verge of extinction, and Wilcox, the last native speaker, was convinced of the need for the young children in her family to learn her native language. This is what inspired Wilcox to begin creating a Wukchumni dictionary, eReflect says.

Wilcox started to write down the language she learned at an early age but has rarely spoken. She started writing down words that came to mind on random pieces of paper, but later her approach became more systematic. Wilcox started typing Wukchumni words and stories on a computer so that she could later pass them on to her family. After many years of continuous effort, Wilcox has compiled a dictionary to help these children learn the Wukchumni language. “Marie’s Dictionary” is the ultimate vocabulary builder: a word database that is essential for the preservation and continuation of a language.

eReflect salutes Marie Wilcox for her extraordinary efforts to keep her language alive through this self-driven initiative to compile the first Wukchumni dictionary. Although not a professionally edited dictionary, Wilcox’s knowledge and mastery of the Wukchumni language helped her create a more than adequate dictionary that offers word definitions, spelling, and pronunciation information for hundreds of Wukchumni words. With the help of her daughter, Wilcox has managed to bring “Marie’s Dictionary” to life. She and her grandson also created an audio dictionary version in which Wilcox records the English and the Wukchumni words. Her 7-year endeavor now complete, Marie has put together an indispensable and priceless tool to help preserve her native language.

eReflect remarked today, “Marie’s story is truly inspiring. She single-handedly tried to create a legacy of her language and culture and pass it down to anyone that might wish to learn it. She’s a strong woman who proves that language is a central human aspect we need to preserve. Marie was the only fluent speaker Wukchumni. Her effort is already impacting the life of her grandson, who’s learning the language. With Marie’s help he speaks the language and gradually improves vocabulary knowledge that connects him to his heritage.”

Eric Sloan Of ericestimate.com Tells Ultimate Spelling Readers How To Craft A Killer Website Headline, eReflect Shares

Eric Sloan Of ericestimate.com Tells Ultimate Spelling Readers How To Craft A Killer Website Headline, eReflect Shares

New York City, NY (PRWEB) March 07, 2014

A headline, whether that is for a post or an article, is what convinces readers to keep reading. Headlines draw attention, challenge presumptions, and intrigue people. Eric Sloan of ericestimate.com reveals to the Ultimate Spelling™ blog readers his tips on how to craft headlines that grab the reader’s attention and keep them on the page rather than clicking away to another site.

The most important aspect of a website headline, Sloan explains, is that it offers some sort of relief or reassurance to the visitor that they’ve come to the right place to solve their problem. The headline has to include or touch upon a fear, anxiety, problem, or emotion visitors are experiencing, the reason that they are searching the web for a solution. If, for instance, a visitor is self-conscious when speaking in public, the headline needs to reassure them they will learn how to master that fear and speak confidently in front of an audience.

Ultimate Spelling™ readers will learn from Sloan’s commentary that a headline is the first thing people read when visiting a website, and it’s what tells them if it’s worth staying or not. A headline that exhibits the benefits of reading on to the visitor is an alluring headline. Headlines need to be created with the reader in mind. Authors, bloggers, and anyone writing to attract readers need to remember that the purpose of a headline is not to appeal to their personal writing flair and taste, but to appeal to the reader.

People act instantly when they sense urgency. So headlines that remind readers of a limited time period to act work well, Eric Sloan divulges. Phrases like “limited time,” “while stock lasts,” and “today” make readers more eager to act immediately rather than procrastinate.

eReflect adds to the advice shared by Eric Sloan by underscoring the need for proper spelling. In other words, in order to truly have an appealing and attractive headline, the author needs to check and double-check their headline for any misspellings or typos. Everyone knows how to spell words, but it only takes a moment of distraction for a misspelling to slip through. eReflect is confident that by applying Eric Sloan’s advice, writers can provide web content that will become even more interesting and relevant to those taking the time to read it.

eReflect Reports About The Pen That Can See If You Made A Spelling Error

eReflect Reports About The Pen That Can See If You Made A Spelling Error

New York City, NY (PRWEB) December 03, 2013

A German start-up company has developed Lernstift (German for “learning pen”), a Linux-computer based pen that using patent pending technology to detect spelling errors when the user writes out text in longhand on paper, or even in the air. In this short announcement, eReflect, developer of Ultimate Spelling™ software, recently discussed the educational potential of Lernstift and how such pioneering technologies can be used for improving spelling.

The Lernstift is still in development but available for pre-order. Using cutting-edge technology it seeks to help students with their spelling in a way that’s both reliable and fun; the pen vibrates each time a misspelling is recognized by the pen’s computer, urging the speller to reconsider the last word written.

Lernstift runs on an AAA battery. By using a non-optical motion sensor the pen is able to identify letters, symbols, and other characters. Its 3D technology allows the pen to recognize mistakes even if the pen holder draws or writes in the air. The computer-integrated pen is Wi-Fi powered allowing people to instantly check their handwriting on a connected device.

eReflect reports that such advanced spelling aid tools could be easily introduced in language classes for both native and non-native English speakers in an effort to provide reliable and instant feedback on misspellings. However, eReflect emphasized that while word processing spellcheckers and “smartpens” might let us save face by warning us about embarrassing misspellings, the most reliable go-to spellchecker is the brain. Having a firm grounding in spelling rules and orthography will let people confidently write both on computers and paper without worrying about a misspelling getting away.

eReflect predicts that in a few years time, such smartpens might be a common spelling aid in schools, offices and other fields where handwriting is used. Especially for young spellers, such learning aids might facilitate and even accelerate spelling learning thanks to its instant feedback.

Two-Thumb Text Entry May Be The Future of Touch Typing, Says eReflect

Two-Thumb Text Entry May Be The Future of Touch Typing, Says eReflect

New York City, NY (PRWEB) December 17, 2013

The proliferation of mobile devices is pushing technology to new levels. As more people use handheld devices to go online, it is only natural that new, more efficient, mobile device-specific keyboard layouts will be developed. As the latest statement from eReflect points out, even though the QWERTY keyboard is a diehard keyboard layout common for computer and internet access around the world, two-thumb layouts are constantly being developed and tested for use in mobile devices. eReflect mentioned a recent Max Planck Institute for Informatics study which has designed the KALQ keyboard, a two-thumb text entry keyboard to be used on mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones.

The recommended KALQ keyboard factors in thumb travel distance and optimizes thumb switching in order to be a fast and accurate QWERTY alternative. As eReflect notes, the 37 words per minute KALQ keyboard users achieved after brief training is a promising outcome which confirms how two-thumb touch typing might be a potent replacement for the QWERTY keyboard on touch screen, handheld devices in the future.

Maximum thumb travel for the right keyboard section is 117 pixels and for the left section, 87. While the right section of the keyboard includes all vowels (except the “sometimes vowel” y), the left using new positioning around a spacebar for all consonants except for G, T, K, L, and Q. This novel configuration for the KALQ keyboard was decided after the researchers looked into how the user should hold the device and how letters should be positioned to achieve a faster typing output. The hover-over technique the researchers implemented in the KALQ keyboard allows the user to place the finger over the next to-be-typed key, another time-saving feature.

eReflect said that keyboard training with the KALQ layout, and for that matter any other split screen keyboard layout, has its own idiosyncratic challenges that can be overcome once formal and effective keyboard training is also introduced. In the end, as the statement from eReflect concludes, while two-thumb typing might be a potent solution for mobile devices, the QWERTY keyboard is not currently threatened by these new layouts as they serve different purposes and as such, people shouldn’t overlook the need for improving their QWERTY typing skills.
