Newlin brings more than 25 years of sales and operational leadership experience specializing in building and leading high performance global teams at established and emerging technology companies. He joins StarMobile from OutSystems, where he was responsible for directing OutSystems operations in the Americas. Prior to OutSystems, Newlin served as Senior Vice President of Global Sales and Chief Revenue Officer at Silverpop who was acquired by IBM in 2014. During his 10-years at the company he was an instrumental leader who built teams, consistently grew revenue, and established a global customer base taking Silverpop from a startup to a cloud-based, marketing automation industry-leader. He has also held key positions at Cybrant (acquired by Blue Martini, now Escalate), TenFold Corporation, Texas Instruments (acquired by Sterling Software), and KnowledgeWare (acquired by Sterling Software). He has a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Technology from Purdue University, and resides with his family in Atlanta, Georgia.

Flax, who joined August Schell in 2008, has over twenty-five years of experience in the high tech industry. He was most recently August Schell’s Director of Virtualization Technologies where he built out August Schell’s Software Defined Data Center practice by acquiring the necessary experience and credentials with a focus on cloud projects that incorporate VMware’s network virtualization product, NSX. Flax is one of only a handful of engineers who possess VMware’s most coveted certification; VMware Certified Design Expert for Network Virtualization (VCDX-NV). Under Flax’s leadership, August Schell has maintained a long history with VMware’s NSX product as well as the precursor technology acquired by VMware in 2012, Nicira Network’s Network Virtualization Platform (NVP).
Flax has been involved in every aspect of deploying software solutions and gaining successful customer adoption in his roles at August Schell. Flax has engineered and orchestrated successful customer Data Center Automation deployments at organizations such as Army Knowledge Online, the National Security Agency, the Defense Intelligence Agency, and other Intelligence Community customers. Prior to his role as Director of Virtualization Technologies, Flax served as a Senior Consulting Engineer supporting August Schell’s most prestigious Data Center Automation and Virtualization customers.
Prior to joining August Schell, Flax was a Server Automation Solutions Architect at Hewlett-Packard/Opsware and served as a Senior Technical Product Manager at Apple Computer where he designed, developed and implemented portions of Apple’s A/UX product and internal worldwide computer network.
Flax is a University of Maryland alumnus where he studied Industrial Technology and Computer Science.

UAH Vice President for Research Will Join Lineup of Renowned Speakers at Upcoming Cybersecurity Event

University of Alabama Huntsville (UAH) Vice President for Research Dr. Ray Vaughn, also a distinguished professor of computer science, will be the keynote speaker for the first day of this summer’s Rocket City TakeDownCon. Vaughn will address the topic of critical infrastructure security with his presentation, “Industrial Control Systems Insecurity,” at the premiere [cybersecurity event scheduled for Aug. 18-19 at the Dynetics Solutions Complex, 1004 Explorer Blvd. in Huntsville’s Cummings Research Park. The conference will be preceded by four days of training opportunities.
Vaughn joined UAH, a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education, in May 2013 after serving as associate vice president for research and the department head for Computer Science and Engineering at Mississippi State University. He was also named an eminent scholar and most outstanding faculty member in 2008. Prior to entering academia, he completed a career in the U.S. Army, where he retired as a colonel followed by three years as vice president of DISA Integrated Services at EDS Government Systems.
Vaughn’s research interests are cybersecurity and software engineering with a special focus on industrial control systems security. His past experience includes an assignment at the National Computer Security Center (NSA), where he conducted classified research and participated in the development of national computer security guidance. He has more than 100 publications to his credit and has obtained more than $ 40 million in funded research projects. He received his doctorate in computer science from Kansas State University.
Rocket City TakeDownCon will feature two dynamic tracks during two days, with Monday focused on the “Attack,” teaching participants how even the most protected systems can be breached. The theme for Tuesday will be “Defense,” featuring topics that will challenge attendees to determine if their defense mechanisms are prepared to thwart nefarious and persistent attacks.
Eric Lopez, EC-Council’s director of conferences and events, said, “Dr. Vaughn is an example of the diversity of speakers we have lined up for this year’s event. We are excited to bring a wide range of topics by speakers with various backgrounds and experience to Rocket City TakeDownCon.”
