Pico Computing Scores Technology Triple Play with Micron Hybrid Memory Cube, Next-generation Xilinx FPGAs, and OpenCL

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) November 17, 2014

Pico Computing , the technology leader in FPGA-based acceleration, today announced the first-time convergence of three groundbreaking technologies to bring unprecedented system performance and bandwidth to a compact supercomputing workstation, complete with the ability to implement designs on the platform using OpenCL™, a C-like programming language.

Pico Computing’s Trifecta™ is a high-performance, low-power turnkey workstation solution that even software developers without knowledge of hardware description languages can use to dramatically speed up their applications. Not only does Trifecta accelerate applications spanning packet inspection to bioinformatics to image and video processing, it also accelerates the technology adoption curve by providing a complete system solution that encompasses and advances game-changing technologies including Micron’s Hybrid Memory Cube (HMC), Xilinx’s 20 nm UltraScale™ family of all programmable devices, and the open standard hardware programming language, OpenCL. Further enabled by Pico Computing’s HMC Controller IP and FPGA programming and management framework, the entire solution fits on a single PCI Express card housed within an air-cooled, small-footprint desktop computer.

Highlights of the technologies integrated within Pico Computing’s Trifecta platform include the following:

Hybrid Memory Cube (HMC)

The HMC provides tremendous benefits to memory-bound applications—particularly those that require high bandwidth and fast random access. HMC devices operate up to 15 times faster than DDR3 and consume up to 70% less energy, while delivering exceptionally high bi-directional bandwidth.

HMC Controller IP

Pico Computing’s HMC Controller IP has been specially tuned to operate with Xilinx UltraScale devices to deliver the industry’s first and only 15G HMC solution. The solution implements the full HMC specification, but is also highly parameterized to yield truly optimized system configurations to meet exacting design objectives. The number of HMC links addressed, the number and width of internal ports, clock speeds, power, performance, area, and other details can be “dialed in” to yield precisely the performance required. “Through our partnership with Pico Computing, we are pleased to enable a solution for application developers that offers the highest memory throughput in an FPGA design achievable only with UltraScale devices,” said Tamara Schmitz, director of technical marketing for power and memory at Xilinx.

Pico Computing Framework

Implementation of the HMC controller and programming of the FPGAs is made easy by virtue of Pico Computing’s framework—a Linux-based run-time environment that provides the essential link between the application running on a host computer and the hardware algorithm, or firmware, implemented in the FPGA(s), and automates the FPGA programming overhead.

Xilinx UltraScale FPGAs

Xilinx UltraScale devices support the full HMC bandwidth and offer up to 120 transceivers, ideal for bandwidth-intensive HMC applications. The Trifecta platform leverages the industry’s only shipping 20nm FPGAs, along with a validated HMC IP core, to bring 15Gb/s HMC designs to market now.

OpenCL

In contrast to traditional FPGA design flows, OpenCL enables significantly faster time to market by facilitating a higher level of design abstraction that also realizes end designs with enhanced performance and greater power efficiency. Software developers can now easily create highly parallelized, computationally-intensive applications on the Trifecta platform to yield truly optimized systems, versus the limited performance provided by generic, general purpose hardware. By transferring the program execution to dedicated programmable hardware—and leveraging the HMC to break through the memory wall—applications running on the Trifecta platform can realize dramatically improved performance.

The combination of breakthrough memory technology, next-generation programmable logic, and a standard parallel programing language will not only accelerate developer adoption, but transform application acceleration across a wide range of application domains.

The Trifecta platform will be available in beta version in first quarter, 2015.

Speech Technology Industry Organization Challenges ?Dire Predictions? About AI

Speech Technology Industry Organization Challenges “Dire Predictions” About AI

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) February 10, 2015

In recent news, we have heard about the dangers of Artificial Intelligence (AI) from some of the brightest (and richest) people in the world. Steven Hawking, for example, recently told the BBC, “The development of full artificial intelligence could spell the end of the human race.” And Bill Gates and Tesla’s Elon Musk recently issued similar long-term warnings.

The Applied Voice Input Output Society (AVIOS) has promoted the development of commercial applications of speech and language technology for 34 years, and exemplifies AI technology developing more slowly than expected. Speech recognition and natural language applications, such as personal assistant software, has finally matured to mainstream applications only after decades of effort. The organization announced that the overstatement of what AI technology can do and how it does it can create unfounded fears that slow the advance of valuable and difficult technologies that aid humans much more than they challenge them.

“We have much more to fear from the misuse of computer technology by humans—cyber-terrorism and cyberwarfare—than from the machines themselves,” Dr. William Meisel, Executive Director, AVIOS, said. “The dire predictions of danger from ‘intelligent’ technologies such as natural language understanding runs the risk that we don’t fully pursue the huge benefits they will be providing.”

AVIOS gave examples of some of the potential benefits, benefits discussed in detail at the organization’s upcoming Mobile Voice Conference April 20-21 (http://www.mobilevoiceconference.com):

A personal assistant application on a mobile device in our business and personal lives can in effect increase our intelligence and skills by being an always-available source of information and facts. It can make the assets of the Web available simply through an inquiry in the language we have been taught since birth.
Language technologies can expand our memories by letting us store information by just telling an application to remember it and retrieve that information by just asking for it.
Language technologies can do web searches that return answers rather than links.
Specialized natural-language applications can help a company’s employees fight “digital overload”—too many devices, too much communication, and a challenging range of enterprise applications, making individuals and organizations more efficient and effective.
Language technologies can provide tools to learn reading or speaking a language, and can help us communicate internationally with automatic translation. In schools, technology can be a one-on-one teacher for students struggling with learning to read.
Language technologies can allow us to continue to be productive if we develop physical limitations to typing or seeing.
In automobiles, speech interaction can make use of the growing infotainment, navigation, and mobile-phone-connectivity features safer, as well as making us more productive on the go.

“A more natural, intuitive, and always-available connection with digital technology in effect makes us smarter and more efficient,” noted K. W. ‘Bill’ Scholz, president, AVIOS, and president, NewSpeech. “It can, for example, provide, on-the-job training, letting workers learn as they do, developing new skills.”

Meisel noted that one trend creates a major new category of creative jobs. “Since conversation can engage an individual more tightly than simply listening or reading, we will see a new category of digital and web applications that converse with us, and adapt their responses to our responses. This is, for example, likely to eventually be a major trend in advertising, what the Wall Street Journal called ‘chatvertising.’ And interactive entertainment and information sources that require much more material than a linear book or movie will probably require a team of writers, providing more jobs for creative people.” (See Can Artificial Intelligence create a new non-technical job category?)

The detailed program of the fifth annual Mobile Voice Conference, April 20-21, 2015 in San Jose, California, has been published at http://www.mobilevoiceconference.com/program.

January 1st, 2015, Solveforce Offers WISP 4G Technology Options in Dallas, Texas

January 1st, 2015, Solveforce Offers WISP 4G Technology Options in Dallas, Texas

WISP 4G Technology

Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) December 29, 2014

Solveforce will now be providing the Dallas, Texas region with the world’s only real-time online quoting tool in January 2015. This tool provides live quotes and the best selection of WISP 4G (http://wisp4g.com/) available today.

WISP 4G Technology

Most people get Internet service from either a telephone company or a cable company because those providers already provide physical connections to their homes and businesses. A WISP (wireless Internet service provider) doesn’t need to bring wire to your location, making it a good solution for serving rural areas where telcos and cable companies couldn’t be bothered to invest. WISP was unable to match the speed and reliability of DSL and cable modems, however, until recently. As wireless technology has evolved, WISP 4Gs are beginning to compete in urban areas on speed and price. Here’s how it works.

A WISP 4G (http://3g4gwisp.com/) is distinct from other wireless services currently used. Most cell-phone service providers offer wireless Internet service—with 4G LTE being the fastest current technology—but that doesn’t make them WISPs. Cell-phone service providers don’t expect us to use their service 24/7, and most place very low caps on the amount of data you can transfer over their networks each month (and charge hefty fees if exceeding that amount). Being able to access the Internet while being out and about is a distinct advantage, but LTE data rates are relatively slow, and coverage can be spotty—especially away from large metropolitan areas.

About Solveforce WISP 4G

Wisp4G.com is managed by SolveForce, a WISP Consulting Agency that offers its consulting services in the Dallas, Texas Region and has been providing business solutions since 2004. They are recognized all over the globe as a WISP 4G consulting agency that offers National advisory and auditing services for the telecommunications and Internet industry. Vertafore Unveils New Cloud-Based Technology Innovations for Insurance Agencies to Supercharge Operational Efficiencies and Drive Profitability

Vertafore Unveils New Cloud-Based Technology Innovations for Insurance Agencies to Supercharge Operational Efficiencies and Drive Profitability

Bothell, WA –

(PRWEB) May 28, 2014 — Vertafore, the leading provider of software that transforms the business of insurance, today introduced a major upgrade across its entire portfolio of comprehensive and technologically advanced agency solutions for small, mid-size and enterprise insurance agencies. Based on demand by Vertafore’s customer base of over 20,000 insurance businesses, the Sagitta 2014, Vertafore Agency Platform 2014 and AMS360 2014 solutions incorporate the latest in cloud, data, mobile and automation technologies to help today’s modern insurance agencies increase operational efficiencies and grow profitability. With over $ 50 million invested into product development annually, the new wave of agency solutions demonstrates Vertafore’s commitment to driving the success of independent agencies of all sizes.

Technology investments are at an all-time high for insurance providers looking to software and IT solutions to innovate and optimize every facet of their organizations. In fact, the total insurance IT spending across North America, Europe, Latin America, and Asia-Pacific is expected to reach $ 162.1 billion in 2014, with continued growth to $ 176.7 billion by 2016 . Despite increasing budgets, Ernst & Young reports that 80% of insurance executives see themselves as technology laggards in customer engagement, analytics and adoption of mobile. To alleviate these hardships, Vertafore breaks the mold of traditional insurance software by incorporating cloud, mobile and big data capabilities into their technologies – providing the industry’s most advanced, comprehensive portfolio of solutions for agencies to maximize performance and drive profitability.

A recent Gartner market share analysis has ranked Vertafore second as the top 12 self-serve insurance vendors (VSS) worldwide for 2012 and 2013 . Today, over 20,000 insurance businesses use Vertafore, including 96% of the top independent agencies, 80% of carriers, and 13 of 25 leading brokers. In addition to the company’s recent partnerships with DocuSign, Progressive and the National Flood Service, the new enhancements in Sagitta 2014, Vertafore Agency Platform 2014 and AMS360 2014 solidify Vertafore’s leadership position.

Sagitta 2014

As the only customizable enterprise-level solution in the market, Sagitta 2014 is designed for scalability and provides an extensible architecture to meet the unique needs of enterprise-class agencies. Sagitta 2014 includes enhanced services at scale, such as access for remote users, analyzing and managing multiple lines of business, 3rd party application integration, and custom development capabilities – all showcasing the strength of the Sagitta product. As part of the new Vertafore Enterprise Suite, Sagitta 2014 works in tandem with integral agency products such as WorkSmart, BenefitPoint, and PL Rating to deliver user efficiencies unique to complex agency processes and tasks.

“I’ve been a Vertafore customer and Sagitta user since 1997, and our agency has built our business and processes around the Sagitta solution,” said Beth Jerauld, Senior Vice President of Mesirow Insurance Services, one of the largest independent insurance brokerages and consulting firms in the Chicago area, ranking among the top 40 in the country. “The new enhancements are incredibly advanced, customizable and scalable, allowing us to continue meeting the growing needs of our enterprise. The developmental efforts going into the Sagitta product are core to achieving our goals, and we’re looking forward to seeing additional innovations unfold in the coming months.”

Vertafore Agency Platform 2014

Since introducing the Vertafore Agency Platform in March 2013, the company has signed one new agency customer per day, signing more than 500 incremental new users each month. To help agencies overcome the challenge of managing disparate technologies even more, the Vertafore Agency Platform 2014 now offers an integrated single application experience that allows independent agents to make accurate business decisions and efficiently execute work tasks. New enhancements include Vertafore Single Sign-On, Vertafore SmartFlows, and a new “My Agency Home” dashboard that offers a personalized summary of each agent’s work status – including key tasks and outstanding issues. This automated guidance also helps reduce human latency and errors that hinder excellence in client service.

“Transitioning to the Agency Platform was a no-brainer, particularly due to the seamless integration of our core business applications and advanced reporting functionalities,” said Whitney Malone, Agency Operations Specialist at Gardiner Allen DeRoberts Insurance, one of the nation’s largest, locally owned independent insurance agency supporting clients in all 50 states. “Since making the switch, our agents can manage leads and sell more effectively, resulting in exponential revenue growth.”

AMS360 2014

As the most cost-effective standalone agency management system, AMS360 is a starting point for fast growing agencies before upgrading to the Vertafore Agency Platform. Currently serving over 60,000 users, AMS360 2014 offers a rich set of new features that helps agencies drive revenue growth and better serve customers, including new accounting, billing endorsement processing, and on-demand access to ACORD forms. AMS360 2014 also supports the latest PC software versions, including Windows 8.1, IE 10 and 11.

“Not long after taking over our family-owned agency, it became apparent that technology could resolve a majority of our day-to-day inefficiencies,” said Rex Caton, CEO of Caton-Hosey Insurance Agency, known as Florida’s most respected property, casualty and benefits insurance agency. “Vertafore’s agency solutions put us ahead of competition and have played a significant role in helping achieve our business goals. AMS360 allows our team to automate processes, and spend more time focusing on client needs and improving the customer service experience.”

“The insurance industry is on the cusp of a major digital transformation, and Vertafore is leading the charge through the innovations we are bringing to market today. As we’ve witnessed in other fast moving industries like financial services, agility and automation have a profound impact on the bottom line,” said Alex Lintner, CEO of Vertafore. “Our software helps independent agencies leverage the latest advancements in cloud, data and mobile, to increase efficiencies and maximize day-to-day operations that move the needle for their business.”

From customer and policy management to producer licensing, reference materials, and real-time rating, no other insurance software company offers end-to-end solutions designed to make the modern independent agency more profitable today and into the future.

To debut Sagitta 2014, Vertafore Agency Platform 2014 and AMS360 2014, Vertafore will host a live webcast on May 28 at 10:00 am PDT. Attendees will experience live product demonstrations, hear customer testimonials and Q&As with Vertafore executives.
