While typewriters are the definitive ancestor of all key-based text entry devices, the computer keyboard as a device for electromechanical data entry and communication derives largely from the utility of two devices: teleprinters (or teletypes) and keypunches. It was through such devices that modern computer keyboards inherited their layouts. Using a keyboard, a person can write a document, use keyboard shortcuts, access menus, and play and perform many other tasks. Keyboards can have different keys depending on the manufacturer, the operating system they are designed for and if they are attached to a desktop or a portion of a laptop. But for most, these keys, also called as keycaps, same size and shape from keyboard to keyboard. They are also located a similar distance from each other in a similar pattern.How Computer Keyboards Work?When you look the alternatives that are available for computer keyboards, it is difficult to believe that their original design came from mechanical typewriters that didn’t even need electricity. But no matter how many bells and whistles they offer, most keyboards operate using similar technology. They use switches and circuits to translate the keystrokes of a person in a signal that the computer can understand.

Layout:Computer keyboards are an input device. They place information that someone wrote a program on your computer. Most keyboards have between 80 and 110 keys. The numbers and letters on the keyboard displays the keys – these are the buttons that are pressed when a person types. The arrangement of numbers and letters are the same on all keyboards and called as QWERTY. Key matrix:

Inside, the keyboard is like a mini-computer and consists of the processor and circuits. These data can be transferred to the processor inside the computer. When the line is small, the keyboard from the computer waits for the command. When the computer wants to send data to the keyboard, brings the data line low and the clock. This means that the keyboard does not send the message at the same time.
