The American Statistical Association (ASA), the nation’s preeminent professional statistical society, today announced that Thomas Lee has been selected as the new editor for the Journal of Computational and Graphical Statistics (JCGS). Dr. Lee will serve from 2013-2015, succeeding Rich Levine, San Diego State University.

“Thomas Lee has been an effective associate editor for JCGS since 2006,” said Roy E. Welsch, chair of the JCGS Editor Search Committee. “He is very familiar with the JCGS editorial process and the direction of the journal. Thomas’s expertise is related to image analysis, time series decompositions, and quantile regression.”

For the past two years, Dr. Lee has taught at the University of California at Davis, where he is a full professor in the Department of Statistics. He previously taught at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and also was a visiting professor at Harvard. He became a Fellow of the ASA in 2009. He has reviewed manuscripts and proposals for some 36 journals. In addition to ASA, he is a member of IEEE, IMS and the International Chinese Statistical Association.

Dr. Lee will be a presenter at the Joint Statistical Meetings (JSM) in San Diego (CA), which are held jointly with the American Statistical Association (ASA), the International Biometric Society (ENAR and WNAR), the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS), the Statistical Society of Canada (SSC), the International Chinese Statistical Association, and the International Indian Statistical Association. JSM will take place at the San Diego Convention Center July 28—August 2.

The Journal of Computational and Graphical Statistics presents the very latest techniques on improving and extending the use of computational and graphical methods in statistics and data analysis. Established in 1992, this journal contains cutting-edge research, data, surveys, and more on numerical graphical displays and methods, and perception. Articles are written for readers who have a strong background in statistics but are not necessarily experts in computing.

ASA members receive free online subscriptions to JASA, JBES, JCGS, SBR, and TAS, and discounted subscription rates to Technometrics, Statistical Analysis and Data Mining, Journal of Nonparametric Statistics, Journal of Quantitative Analysis in Sports, and other publiications.
