PSSC Labs Announces Support for the AMD OpteronTM Processor

PSSC Labs Announces Support for the AMD OpteronTM Processor

Irvine, CA (PRWEB) May 21, 2003 -

PSSC Labs announced today its support for Advanced Micro Devices newest entry into the high performance computing arena with an array of new products based on the AMD OpteronTM processor. PSSC Labs products based on the AMD OpteronTM processor include Beowulf supercomputers, database servers, network servers and, high-end workstations.

“The AMD OpteronTM processor is the next logical step in high performance computing,” claimed Alex Lesser, Vice President of PSSC Labs. “Beowulf users are typically memory-intensive users; constantly demanding large amounts of physical memory that can be accessed very quickly by the processor. I firmly believe that Beowulf users will benefit from the performance enhancements offered by the OpteronTM processor.”

“PSSC Labs continues to provide their customers with innovative technology solutions designed to meet their needs,” said Ben Williams, Director of Server Market Development for AMD’s Computation Products Group. “We are confident that PSSC Labs will utilize the 32- and 64-bit capabilities of the AMD OpteronTM processor to continue to provide outstanding solutions for the HPC market.”

The AMD OpteronTM processor integrates the DDR DRAM memory controller directly into the processor, allowing for significantly faster memory access and larger physical/virtual memory address space. Traditional 32 bit processors have a four Gigabyte memory address cap. The AMD OpteronTM processors’ 40-bit and 48-bit virtual addressing enable up to one terabyte of physical memory and 256 terabytes of virtual memory space. In addition, the memory controller operates at the AMD OpteronTM processor’s frequency allowing for an available memory bandwidth of up to 5.3GB/s per processor.
